Steff Chávez

Washington reporter

Steff Chávez is the FT’s Washington reporter, part of the politics and foreign policy teams based in the US capital. She writes the US Election Countdown newsletter.

Previously she covered the US aerospace and defence industry as a Chicago correspondent and a member of the breaking news team. She also reported on domestic airlines and automakers, and the Midwest more broadly. She joined the FT in 2020, writing about institutional investment for FT Specialist publication MandateWire.

She has a degree in political science and art history from Bowdoin College and was a journalist in residence at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
